Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville, WI announces its 2016 garden art project, “Flight of the Hummingbirds.” Now in its seventh year, the project was developed to promote community participation and artist collaboration at RBG, as well as raise awareness and developmental support for the Gardens.
Local artists and enthusiastic people of all skill levels are encouraged to artistically interpret this year’s fun and creative design created by Garden’s volunteers from wood. When the 27 hummingbirds have been completed by artists and returned, staff will position and install the finished pieces throughout the Gardens where they will be displayed during the 2016 growing season for visitors to enjoy. The Hummingbirds will then be sold at a live auction on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the RBG.
For those interested in participating in the art project, the 27 Hummingbirds will be available for pickup, February 8, while supplies last, at the RBG Parker Education Center during regular business hours. Participation/sponsorship fee is $40 and birds can be reserved with a credit card. Rough dimensions are 48” from beak to tail and the wings extend about 30” from the body. Artists should note that the Hummingbirds will be mounted on a wooden post. Accommodations for transportation should be considered. Please notify RBG if you need additional assistance.
Artist supplies are the responsibility of the sponsor, group or individual. Interested artists may contact Polly at 608.752.3885, ext. 23 or visit the website atrotarybotanicalgardens.org to download the complete guidelines and registration form.
