On Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15, the City of Janesville, with assistance from many City poll workers and County Clerk Lisa Tollefson’s office, administered a recount of the ballots cast for the April 5 City Council election.

Of the 21,082 ballots cast in 31 wards during the April 5 election, the recount resulted in a net change of seven votes between the seven City Council candidates. All changes in vote tallies can be attributed to human errors, such as improperly marked ballots.

The City uses DS-200 Precinct Tabulator machines to count votes. These machines are certified by the Federal Election Commission and the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board for their quality and accuracy in tabulating votes.

The results of the recount administered by the City of Janesville reaffirm the accuracy and integrity of the DS-200 machines.
