The public may soon have a permanent reminder of two men who had a major impact on high schools sports.
The Janesville City Council is scheduled to introduce a resolution Monday night to be referred to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee which would name the press box at Monterey Stadium the Wedeward-Fagerli Press Box.
Dave Wedeward was the Sports Editor for the Janesville Gazette for 39 years until he retired in 2011. He was honored by the Wisconsin Athletic Director’s Association for “Distinguished Service to High School sports.”
Al Fagerli spent 36 years announcing local high school play-by-play sports coverage. Fagerli announced almost 2000 high school games from football and basketball to baseball and hockey.
The request comes from WCLO and WJVL’s General Manager Mike O’Brien and Former Sales Manager Mel Cushing, who’ve indicated their committee would raise the $5,400 necessary to cover the cost of a new sign.
After the Parks and Rec. Advisory Committee reviews the request on June 14th, the City Council will likely hold a public hearing on August 8th.
