The officer on the beat in Beloit may have a greater understanding of the local drug culture thanks to a change in the way the department deals with tips. Captain Dan Molland says officers will be getting more direct information through a partnership with Crime Stoppers. Upon receiving a tip, an officer is assigned to conduct an investigation and works in conjunction with area drug unites, neighborhood residents, and other officers to collaborate on identifying and resolving the activity. One goal is to prevent any tips from falling through the cracks. The change is part of the department’s effort towards a community policing strategy.
