The Janesville City Council considers taking advantage of federal funding to cover 80 percent of the cost of three new transit system buses.

Transit Director Rebecca Smith says before the City Council will consider a resolution authorizing the City’s 20 percent share Monday night, the Metropolitan Planning Organization must approve re-allocation of federal Surface Transportation Funds.

Smith says the City’s share of the $1.4 million cost for three new buses would be $294,000.

Of the City’s 17 buses, 13 currently meet the federal guidelines for replacement.
