Beloit man charged with severely abusing two month old infant

A 31-year-old Beloit man is accused of abusing his less than two month old son to the point that the baby is brain dead and on life support.

According the the criminal complaint Deanthony Cardell Hodges is charged with physical abuse of a child causing great bodily harm, child neglect causing great bodily harm, and misdemeanor bail jumping.

Beloit Police responded to a report of an unresponsive infant on the 700 block of Euclid Avenue just before 2:00 the afternoon of Monday, March 20th.

Hodges told police the little boy had been crying all day and that when he eventually checked on him he wasn’t breathing an appeared unconscious. It was the baby’s mother who contact police after Hodges texted her.

The seven-week old was taken to the hospital where an examination determined he had injuries consistent with being attacked of shaken.

If convicted on all charged Hodges faces almost 30 years in prison.
