The Janesville Fire Department sees some savings in changing the way it looks at purchasing new fire engines.

Chief Randy Banker says with the truck being purchased next month the department re-did it’s specification process, went with a spec-type vehicle, and joined a state cooperative program.

Banker says at $525,000 it will cost more than $140,000 less than the last two engines that were purchased.

The money was budgeted for as part of the upcoming 2017 note issue.

The Janesville City Council approved the purchase in a unanimous vote Monday night.
