Building a budget may be a little easier for the city of Janesville this year. Acting Finance Director Max Gagin says economic development has improved greatly since the city dealt with a $1 million deficit last year.  Gagin says much of the difference can be attributed to new construction like the Dollar General distribution center. The city also saved a little money last year through attrition with the retirement of several higher-paid long-term employees. This year the city council goes into the budget process with a projected $10 thousand surplus.
