AUDIO: Rock County clerk issues same sex marriage licenses
No easy answers regarding same-sex marriage in Wisconsin. Before Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler decided to begin issuing same sex marriage licenses Monday, she sought direction from the state. She says she didn't get a lot of help, so she made her decision after seeking her own legal advice. The Department of Justice has filed an emergency motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals, asking for a temporary stay of Friday's federal court ruling striking down Wisconsin's constitutional amendment banning same sex unions. That didn't stop some couples Monday. Stottler says it didn't take long before the first same-sex couple came to her counter. A minister from the Universal Life Church was even waiting outside Stottler's office today to aid any same sex couples who wanted to say "I do", before another the courts rule they can't.
