The threat of rain, and a slight chill on the breeze, wasn't enough to keep hundreds of Janesville residents from honoring veterans on Memorial day. Ceremonies in Traxler Park were marked by the placing of flags for veterans from World War 1 to Iraq and Afghanistan. Keynote speaker and Korean War Era Veteran Al Funk shared a disappointment with three day weekend holiday distractions, and federal budget cuts reducing the level of respect paid veterans. Funk says remembering the fallen in a manner befitting their sacrifice is not a luxury, but a solemn duty. Janesville Patriotic Society President Tom Stahura closed the observance by thanking the crowd for attending, and reminding everyone to always remember.
