Rock County District Attorney David O'Leary is calling the officer involved, fatal shooting, of a 23-year-old Beloit man "legal and appropriate". O'Leary says after reviewing reports prepared by the Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, and Beloit Police Department, it is evident Darrius Lowery Baptiste was shot and killed as a direct result of his own actions. Officers on the scene of the June 11th incident on East Grand Avenue say Lowery Baptiste attempted to accelerate his vehicle toward officers during a traffic stop. They say after the shooting they also found a semi-automatic hand gun where he was lying. Beloit police still plan to set up a panel of review surrounding the circumstances as they relate to the department's policies and training.
