A UW-Whitewater professor is gaining some recognition in Washington D.C. Economics Professor Russell Kashian is being noticed for his research on minority owned banks. From his studies he's found banks owned by African-Americans tend to have higher interest rates on CD's. He says this can lead to inspire investment in community styled banks in often economically depressed neighborhoods. It also offers jobs with opportunities for training, advancement, and transfer in those neighborhoods. Kashian is quick to point out his research is only possible because of the support of the University and students who contribute their time and effort to collect the data. In recognition of his work, Dr. Kashian has been invited to speak before the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in Washington Tuesday.
