400 volunteers fill center court at the Eclipse Center in Beloit to kick off the United Way Blackhawk Region annual campaign. Campaign Chairman Tom Spilde was shadowed by a giant video screen on stage as he announced this year's $2.8 million goal. The screen displayed examples from member agencies and business sponsors helping promote a first of its kind campaign. United Way Blackhawk Region President Steve Kincaid is quick to point out this is the first combined campaign unifying more than 30 communities. The kick off breakfast also ushers in the "Day of Caring" as volunteers offer their time on 55 service projects at 28 nonprofit agencies. This year's campaign is getting off to a strong start with the pacesetter companies already collecting $330,000.
