The Janesville School Board is in the unique position of deciding whether to make up to one million dollars in budget cuts, or keeping the budget as-is.

Superintendent Tom Evert says it's the $281,000 in maintenance project cuts that worry him the most. The cuts are part of a school board request to find out if the school district could help taxpayers by cutting $500,000 or one million dollars out of the district's budget. The cuts do not include personnel, but Commissioner Peggy Sheridan says the cuts still affect students and learning. Commissioner Tim Cullen disagrees, commending Evert for finding ways to propose cuts without laying off personnel.

The board votes on the budget in two weeks.
