WCLO's Beth Wheelock reports on the progress in Janesville's city manager search.

Janesville's City Council will scrutinize applications from eight city manager candidates in closed session Thursday.

Council President Amy Loasching says the consulting group is providing the eight applicants for the council to review. Of the eight, three were considered during the last search and brought back at council members' request. The names of those to be interviewed should be available by the end of the week. Loasching says the council also plans to use input from a community panel. The panel was used during the first search this summer. The council narrowed the field to two candidates before deciding to begin a new search.

Current City Manager Steve Sheiffer retires September 5. Director of Administrative Services Jay Winzenz will serve as interim manager until the next manager takes office.
