WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on success of Rock County Drug Court
Early reports indicate Rock County's Drug Court is a success.
The Drug Court is intended to be a cost saving alternative to incarceration, offering both accountability and rehabilitation to offenders. Rock County Criminal Justice Planner Elizabeth Pohlman McQuillen tells WCLO's Stan Milam show, other counties have found big benefits. The Drug Court could pave the way to other alternatives to incarceration like a Drunk Driving Court.
The county plans an independent review of the drug court program this month.

I understand that Rock County is trying to minimize the amount of inmates at the Rock County Jail, but I do not believe that the drug addicts that have been caught with drugs should get a slap on the wrist. Drug court has good intention but is a waste of time! These people aren’t going to stop using drugs they aren’t going to slow down. They will just find a way to not get caught. They are going to keep going until they either kill someone or get killed!
What are we teaching kids of today? The fear of going to jail for drugs is gone. A Book and Release isn’t going to steer these kids away from drugs! Instead they go to drug court! Now if the word Court was so intimidating to kids these days they wouldn’t be filing in and out daily!
I personally do not care how crowded the jail is. Every person that is there did something that deserves punishment! No matter what way we look at these situations, it is our tax money that is paying for it.
Get these people off the streets!!!
Just my opinion!
