City of Janesville may keep GM vehicles in fleet
Podcast Episode
WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the reason why GM's closure won't affect the fleet.
The City of Janesville has used GM vehicles, almost exclusively, for years.
Director of Administrative Services Jay Winzenz says the City Council's policy points to cost savings with standardized parts as the reason. City Council President Amy Loasching says despite GM's plans to close down the Janesville plant, the council probably won't change the policy. Loasching, who works for UAW Local 95, says GM will still have a presence in the area because they'll be supporting retirees for many years.

Why should the city show continued loyalty to GM? I say buy vehicles that are the best value for the taxpayers. There are many brands to choose from locally. Unless the city has been buying Tahoes and Suburbans, buying Ford, Chrysler or Toyota benefits Janesville the same as buying GM.
