The Janesville School Board is in possession of the district's 2008-09 draft budget, which includes a few wild cards.

School District Comptroller Lauri Clifton says declining enrollment caught administrators off-guard this past year. The implementation of four year old kindergarten, or "Preschool 4 Janesville", is also unknown, as is the number of new students to be brought in if the district expands its TAGOS Leadership Academy.

Clifton says the delay of school aid payments in the state budget repair bill would affect more than one million dollars for Janesville. She says money that Janesville would receive in June would be delayed until July. She says the district has had a delay for some years, but the state is taking the dollar amounts from the current year and moving them to the next year. She says on the district's financial statements it doesn't look like it has an impact, but it's real dollars that aren't available until a later date.

Copies of the budget draft are available in school offices and Hedberg Public Library. The school board will host a public hearing June 10.
