WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on state budget deficit
The state budget deficit swells.
Governor Jim Doyle says the state is facing a $5.4 billion budget deficit by mid 2011. In describing the challenges ahead during a meeting with his cabinet Thursday, Doyle outlined the need for deeper budget cuts by state agencies. He says state agencies will now be asked to trim up to 12%. Governor Doyle says many factors have contributed to the growing economic problems of the state. He says consumer confidence is at a 30-year low, retail sales are declining, and tax revenues have declined. State Assembly Speaker Elect Mike Sheridan of Janesville is calling for bipartisan solutions. Sheridan says both parties will have to work to make difficult decisions.
He says core principles like funding schools, creating jobs, and protecting health care will need to be maintained.

All Doyle did was cover up the problem by shuffling money around between various accounts. That's something a shyster would do. Maybe he could benefit from better math skills.

Now remember, Doyle was elected the first time because there was a deficit that he said he was more qualified to fix. He's been fixing it ever since. Maybe an appointment to Obama's administration would be a good step forward for Wisconsin.
