Public hearing for BID unnecessary

WCLO's Steve Benton reports on cancellation of BID public hearing
JANESVILLE A petition opposing a proposed Business Improvement District "BID" in the downtown passed scrutiny from Janesville city officials and makes a public hearing scheduled for Monday's meeting unnecessary.
Acting City Manager, Jay Winzenz, says those who have names on the petition are aware of the change, but others wishing to speak may not. Winzenz says the council need not discuss the outcome of the petition, but he will recommend City County President, Amy Loesching, announce the cancellation of the hearing.
Winzenz didn't have an exact breakdown of who signed the petition, but he says it was a mix of large and small property owners. Whether the issue is dead, or brought back in a different form, will be up to downtown business owners.
