State legislature may consider new health care plan

State Senator Jon Erpenbach of Middleton tells WCLO's Stan Milam Show "Healthy Wisconsin" should make a come back.

The Democrat isn't sure what form the plan will return, but he says some changes may be needed to make it more affordable for small businesses. Erpenbach says, even with a $15 billion price tag, it's cheaper than everyone trying to get their own health care.

He also says the state wouldn't need all of the money up-front, because the program could be phased in over time.

A $5 billion deficit - and now we want to create more spending? Talk about bad timing..... The STATE does not belong in the health care business. Sorry, folks, but that is your individual responsibility.

Mikki: Sorry, I forgot to mention that this is for BadgerCare Benchmark Plan. We did not qualify for BadgerCare Plus. We were a little over the poverty level.

Mikki: Badgercare Plus would cost me aprox $250.00 plus a month. My husband's unemployment covers our mortgage payment. I am a part time worker and I pay all of the other bills: utilities, phone, insurances, etc. I am left with little to buy groceries after that. Therefore, I cannot afford the medical insurance unless my employer would take me on full time. At first I was told I could go full time, but then my company is now restructuring and not hiring, no overtime is aloud, even though I am part time and would not be paid overtime, but I was putting in extra hours when I was aloud to. Now they cut out extra hours for part timers also. If I could find another part time job that would not overlap with my job now, I would gladly take it so that I could afford to pay for medical insurance. My job does have insurance, but unfortunately, they charge part timers double what full timers would pay.

Part of your post doesn't make sense. You can't "afford" Badgercare Plus? What about it can't you afford? The only times there are payments is if there is a high income over a certain percentage of poverty level.

What happens to the people who lose their jobs and still can't get state medical aid? My husband lost his job, I am part time, trying to go full time but my employer is cutting back also. That leaves us with no medical insurance. I cannot afford BadgerCare Plus on a part time job. His unemployment covers our mortgage. And we don't qualify for state aid. So what does the state or Obama plan to do about this?

This will be entertaining to watch the state "phase in" a new massive spending plan while it struggles to "phase out" the huge old budget deficit while resisting the urge to "phase in" massive new tax increases so that the Governor and the new majority in the Assembly don't get "phased out" of office in 2010.
