Residents can relocate trees ahead of gas line work

JANESVILLE — ANR Pipeline Co. plans to install a high pressure gas line in Briar Crest Park, and members of the public are being invited to take trees Wednesday that would otherwise be destroyed.

A 50-foot utility easement is being provided along the southern boundary of the park. Numerous trees were planted along the pipeline to buffer the park and area residents from the Pine Tree shopping development.

An additional 100 white pine trees located within the pipeline company’s temporary construction easement will be destroyed.

The city’s parks division relocated 30 of the trees to other areas of the park to provide shade and screening. Briar Crest Park area residents were given the opportunity to relocate a tree to their personal property at their own expense.

The parks division is offering a chance to all city residents to choose a tree for relocation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the park on Amhurst Road. City staff will be present at the park to help residents choose and mark trees for relocation.

Trees selected will be documented and assigned. Residents need to hire a private contractor at their expense for large tree removal. Smaller trees might be able to be relocated without the use of a contractor.

Any trees chosen by residents must be relocated by Wednesday, July 22.
