Beloit police captured a suspected drunk driver early Saturday morning shortly after the bars closed.

Authorities says the suspects car was traveling on the bike path when it began to cross West Grand Avenue. As the vehicle crossed the road, it broad sided a squad car. The officer was able to give a description of the vehicle and suspects. Two were captured including the driver.

The officer was treated at the hospital and released.

And it is my online observation that people who have to pick apart grammar and spelling are of the variety that cannot entertain someone elses opinions or they would debate viewpoints and not proper English.

Nikki unless you were IN the car realize that there are always 3 sides to EVERY story with the truth generally somewhere in the middle.

It is not the patrol officers job to assign guilt rather ENFORCE rules.

Everybody gets their day in court. If you are of the variety that likes to test our judicial system simply save your money for an attorney.

Sorry, I will not let some website determine the validity of Nikki's intelligence. Her previous lack of correct grammar and spelling give me proof enough that she lacks in certain areas.

Alright, enough picking on people over spelling. No ones perfect but still entitled to an opinion.

Got a problem with that?

That's not an answer Ms. Nikki. By the way, you still haven't learned to spell correctly. Did you not finish school?

It is not the po po's fault. I was there.

I wonder if they will update this article as posters have said they have information that the officer is on suspension. I don't doubt that the person who hit the officer was drinking. On the trail or off, the guy hit the officer. Just wondering what the real story is, if it differs from what the officer said...

It was the BPD's fault. That's why the officer in question is under suspension, but you won't hear about that.

The oficer was traviling on the bike bath and broad sided the vehical, then called it in as a DUI arrest. And notice there is nothing else there about the driver since all 4 of them blew under the .08 LEGAL limit.

So know the facts before passing judgement!!!!

There are signs that say "No Motorized Vehicles" near the bike path. He didn't have a criminal record, but he's got one now!

spedtke - I stated, that being sober and almost turning onto the bike path - doing it while drunk, yes I could see it happening. Don't take comment's so literally. I know the officer was not on the bike path (common sense, he wasn't drunk was he? if so there would be an issue) but you mean to tell me he was unaware of the vehicle coming?

Yes drunk driving is horrible, and it shouldn't happen. Too many lives are lost because of it. But apparently they (BPD) don't feel it's too bad, considering the person is not currently incarcerated.

Kayluhh - one, why would you imagine driving wasted? It's that type of disregard for the law and safety of others that makes me have no pity for those who drive intoxicated.
Two, the police car was broadsided when the drunk hit him crossing W. Grand. The officer was NOT on the bike path, but traveling on a street.
People who drive drunk should be punished to the full extent of the law. It's irresponsible and selfish.

Well personally I've almost turned onto the bike path on 5th St completely sober, so I can imagine doing it wasted. Maybe the good ol' city of Beloit should do something about that street and make it obvious where the bike path is compared to the street, then they wouldn't have such problems. As for the officer, what was he doing to not notice the car coming at him?

for yur 411 jayvee hes never had a been convicted of drunk driving before. so in the past nothing. nd to let everyone else who wants to speak neg, on this article he dont even have a criminal record. so its nice how ppl just assume stuff mayb you should worry about yurself nd wonder how many times your going to get picked up for drunk driving.before you worry about or talk neg about someone else. so your wager more then twice is very very wrong.
