WCLO's Steve Benton reports Town of Beloit police Sgt. Willis Abegglen retires and eliminates the need for a disciplinary hearing
BELOIT TOWNSHIP The Town of Beloit is advertising for a replacement for police Sgt. Willis Abegglen, who retired affective February 19th. Town Administrator, Bob Museus, says they'll take applications through mid April and probably hire someone in mid May.
Abegglen was facing a hearing before the Town Police and Fire Disciplinary Review Committee February 22nd on charges of misconduct, filed by police Chief, John Wilson. The complaint alleges Abegglen harassed and intimidated the Administrative Assistant to Chief Wilson, Melissa Corum on several occasions. On at least one of them, Corum made an audio recording of the comments, which Abegglen later denied making.
Abegglen began working for the department nearly 30 year ago. He served in various capacities, achieving the rank of Deputy Chief in 2004. That rank was eliminated in April of 2009 and Abegglen served out the remainder of his time as a Sergeant.

I love all the references to open records, one sided records mind you. Get your open records and make them public, quit talking about it. If Wilson was'nt a coward why did he let the alleged harassment continue until he supposedly had a case against the Sgt. A real man would have his boot up the Sgt.'s butt after the first complaint. I need some of what your smokin or I need to come live on your planet.

just because people are forced to retire or choose to leave on there own free free will does'nt mean they will be silenced in federal court. there are still officers in place that will not "sell their soul to the devil for personnal gain. remember; :the lesser of two evils, is evil." no matter what the outcome, remember one thing town board, chairman (and chairman, you have been notified/documented), adminstrator, taxpayers, and all that support wilson: there is a price to pay: litigation. wilson will leave laughing all the way to the bank with is inflated pay and pension because, guess what? it does not cost him a thing. all wilson is trying to do is settle scores behind closed doors: he is the true definition of a coward: what a legacy, i hope your children are proud. the police department is a para-military organization. wilson has abondoned the mission and his men, he has lost sight of the real objective based on his personnal agenda, which, in this case happens to be revenge, retalitation, character attacks, etc... there is nothing worse than being judged by a hypocrite/criminal. what a sad day for the tob pd. i feel sorry for all the "old school' guys out there who helped build the reputation of the tob pd. at one time they were they most respected and feared forces on the street, now they have become nothing but the "clownship of beloit."
