WCLO's Steve Benton reports on one of the most significant marijuana busts in Janesville history

Rashann M. Henderson

Andrea R. Meyer

The Janesville Police Street Crimes Unit and patrol officers say they stopped a marijuana growing operation Tuesday night that could significantly reduce available pot on the street in Rock County.

Using a search warrant, officers seized 147 plants with a street value of about $75,000. They also found a small amount of cocaine, 9 mm handgun, U.S. currency, drug paraphernalia and drug packaging material at 2507 Black Bridge Road.

Police say they found an elaborate growing system, mainly in the basement, consisting of a growing area, drying room and an exhaust system. Police seized 54 plants ranging from seedlings to mature plants.

Rashann Henderson, 20, and Andrea Meyer, 20, both of Janesville, are facing charges.

During prohibition, there was a significant rise in gang activity - similar to what is happening today. Why not legalize it, regulate it, tax it- just as alcohol is done today?
Gang violence might be reduced. Our jails wouldn't be overcrowded with nonviolent offenders and tax revenue would be used for constructive things.

I breathe oxygen only, it works for me. I don't need substances to keep me kicking.
