A once-controversial part of the Beloit School District's curriculum, its Human Growth and Development program, is receiving new attention.

Superintendent Milton Thompson says there were a few areas of the program lacking compared to the state's proposal. The school district is forming a committee to look at the difference between that proposal and the current curriculum. Thompson says he doesn't want the school district to get caught up in a controversy. Rather, he says he wants to give students information they need to live a healthy lifestyle. In 2005 the school board rejected a Human Growth and Development proposal. Some in the community have linked that decision to teen pregnancy rates.
