The Janesville Police and Fire Commission chooses to hire from within for its next fire chief.

The commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to extend a tentative job offer to Deputy Chief Jim Jensen. Jensen was chosen from a field of 47 applicants. The commission spent two days on the recruitment, including an Assessment Center, meeting with union leadership and city staff, and community tours.

Jensen has been with the Janesville Fire Department since 1988. He has acted as chief when current chief Larry Grorud has been gone. Grorud is retiring at the end of the year.
