WCLO's / WJVL's Steve Benton reports the U.S. Postal Service is studying closing some rural post offices.
ROCK COUNTY — The U.S. Postal Service is conducting a study to see if closing down little used rural post offices would help them save money.
Customer Relations Coordinator for the Madison Post Office, Karen Cronin, says 12 post offices in Southern Wisconsin are included in the study. Cronin says towns which lose a post office would be given the option of opening what is called a "village post office." She says it is usually run by a local business for commercial deliveries.
The Postal Service lost $8.5 billion in 2010 and Cronin says they're looking for ways to reduce operational costs. No post offices in Rock County are on the list to be studied.

Suggest removal
They can get rid of ALL the post offices as far as I'm concerned. All I get is junk mail and bills/statements which are not necessary as everything is payed online.Those who do not own a computer, let the goverment buy them one and train them,that would be cheaper in a long run. Cost of stamps? P.U.
