Mercy Health System is ready to get to work on its new facility on Deerfield Drive. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for June 19th. Kyle Geissler reports.

— Residents will get a chance to be heard before Mercy Health System can commence work on an emergency room and clinic on Deerfield Dr.

Mercy Vice President Rich Gruber says a public hearing is set for Sept. 19th.

Excavation work has been underway at the site while Mercy waits for approval to start construction.

Gruber says Mercy is still on track to open the facility by the end of the year.

Mercy's new facility is set to open about the same time as St. Mary's Janesville Hospital and Dean Clinic opens further south along I-90.

hm.. I don't really care for dean doctors. My mother wanted to be treated by her "Dean" doctor earlier this year. Was at St. Mary's for over a week, left in more pain, came home had to call 911 and was admitted at mercy with sepsis. As a nurse reviewing the records she was discharged with elevated WBC, low grade temp and bone pain. My mother really wanted to keep her Dean doctor because she liked him. Personally it was her decision that eventually cost her life, but it was hers and she liked her doctor. My suggestion, if you don't like mercy don't go there, if you don't like dean/St. Mary don't go there. Every health care facility will have success and failure stories.

My mother was born at Mercy. My brothers and sisters were born at Mercy. My husband was born at Mercy. My children were born at Mercy. All three generations have been treated with the best of care and compassion. I am so grateful to have superior healthcare just down the street. Thanks for all you do every day.

Janesville for years has held negative views of Mercy Health System, even back in the days when the nuns ran it. Every organization has some issues and quite frankly, I’m tired of hearing the Janesville community rip apart Mercy. Mercy is no different than any other healthcare facility. There is not a mass influx of deaths caused by Mercy Health System. I get frustrated because I hear all the comments about the emergency department at Mercy. How many in this community find it necessary to use the emergency room for sniffles, fevers, colds, and chronic pain. Go to your primary doctor. If you don’t have insurance, go call your congressman. I hate to tell everyone but healthcare is not an entitlement or right in this country..yet. All those who are crying about Obama (a president who is actually trying to do SOMETHING to improve healthcare – And I have not nor will I vote for) should maybe be willing to cough up some cash to support healthcare reform instead of refusing to do anything but slamming an organization that supports thousands of jobs and also provides servies through their community care program. Many in Janesville go to the emergency room with expectations that are very unrealistic. I hate to tell people but doctors are educated in medicine. The medications or treatment or testing you may WANT is not appropriate medical care. I know many people who expect MRIs to be done in the emergency room and are upset when they are told that this test is not done in the emergency room except in extreme cases. People want a certain pain medication and then get upset because they do not get it. I’m sorry but the general public does not have medical degrees nor do they know the standards and procedures for determining the appropriate medical care needed. I do not have a medical degree and I don’t pretend to think I know how to treat medical conditions. Mercy is a good organization and after so many years of hearing Janesville residents complain and rip them apart, I can’t wait until St. Mary’s comes to town because the grass is always greener on the other side.
And feel free to rip me apart on these blogs because I won’t be responding. I shared my views and then moved on instead of whining further.

Thank the Lord I have insurance that I can go anywhere I choose. I am excited for a new hospital to open though so I have somewhere to take my children if I have to instead of all the way to Beloit or Madison!

Public hearing???? What a joke! The only thing mercy cares about is how much money they can make. The only reason they are trying to build all of these clinics is because people are starting to see through mercy's "non profit" status and have to spend all of the profits that they have made!

missdog and misscamry... exactly! I'm thrilled to have an option! This sidestep of Javon Bea's is just a move to "save face" in my opinion!
I hope the local community can SHUT THIS DOWN quickly! That's ALL we need is another Mercy anything in a residential neighborhood!

misscamrry - I totally agree with you. I cannot stand Mercy; I think they kill more people than save people. I have heard of too many stories of people going to Mercy with something that would be serious and they tell that person they will be fine and send them packing with a prescription. A few days later, they are back...in worse shape. Maybe that is their way of making sure they have "repeat customers"?!?! Can't wait for St. Mary's to open!

missdog is right. I don't care for Mercy and I wish St. Mary's would have moved to Deerfield Ave instead even though St. Mary's would be closer to home. At least when St. Mary's is built I would feel better about going to an emergency room and not knowing whether or not I'll live or not going to Mercy.

Seems to me Mercy doesn't care what the residents have to say since the excavation started a few weeks ago. Seems to me Mercy is putting the cart before the horse.
