JANESVILLE — For entertainment this year, the Rock County 4-H Fair is taking it straight back to country.
The Fair organizers have announced the main stage lineup will include two country music stalwarts and one group of Nashville newcomers.
Up-and-coming country rock act Florida Georgia Line will pop the cork on the 2013 Rock County 4-H Fair concert series, fair board member Craig O'Leary said.
The Nashville country act will leave the fair's main stage heated up for a double-dose of classic country on Wednesday, July 24: Country legend Ronnie Milsap and country-pop hit-makers the Bellamy Brothers.
Milsap has 40 No. 1 country hits, including "Smoky Mountain Rain," "(There's) No Gettin' Over Me" and "I Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World." One of popular music's best-known blind performers, Milsap has appeared at the Rock County 4-H Fair in the past.
This will be the Bellamy Brothers' first time at the fair, O'Leary said. Country-pop fans likely know the Bellamy Brothers best for their No. 1 crossover hit "Let Your Love Flow. "
The band, made up of brothers David Milton Bellamy and Homer Howard Bellamy, charted 50 times in the 1970s and 1980s, notching 20 No. 1 hits.
Georgia Florida Line hit the country Top 5 with the breakthrough single "Cruise," taking the spot in 14 weeks. It's the fastest a new country act has peaked with a single since country rockers Brooks & Dunn topped the charts with "Brand New Man" in 1991.
Two other major headline acts are set for Friday and Saturday night, O'Leary said, but fair organizers can't announce their names yet because of contractual reasons.
All he was able to say is that both are nationally-recognized country acts.
Tickets for the fair's concert series go on sale in June, O'Leary said. Concert times will be announced at a later date.
Organizers are planning a local band showcase Friday, July 26, that will be open to area rock bands, O'Leary said. On Sunday, July 28, fair entertainment will switch gears to classical with the Beloit/Janesville Orchestra performing.
