A residential burglary in Beloit is sparking a warning to gun owners.
Beloit Police Chief Norm Jacobs says five guns were stolen during a residential burglary on the 1500 block of Cleveland Avenue on March 13th. The owner only had the serial number for two of the five guns, which makes it impossible for officers to return the guns if they find them.
The Beloit Police Department would like to remind gun owners to write down the serial numbers for all of their guns and keep them in a safe place. If you don't know the serial number and your gun is stolen, police are unable to return it. Worse yet, it makes it harder for law enforcement to trace the gun if it's used in a crime.
