According to a Janesville Police Department news release 17-year-old Jonathan Jimenez of Janesville, was arrested on charges of operating while causing injury, recklessly endangering safety, reckless driving causing injury, operating after suspension, red light violation and underage drinking.
Shortly after 12:30 Thursday morning, an officer observed Jimenez driving a pickup truck in the area of West Milwaukee and South Locust streets. Knowing Jimenez had a suspended driving status and was wanted through the police department, the officer initiated a traffic stop, but Jimenez attempted to elude him by running the red light at the intersection Milwaukee and Academy streets at a high rate of speed.
The officer did not initiate a pursuit, lost sight of the truck, but soon located it at 627 Rockport Road, where it had hit a house.
Jimenez, who was injured, attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody. Two of his passengers were injured. A third passenger fled the scene.
Although two occupants were home at the time of the crash, they were not hurt.
The two-story house sustained significant structural damage, according to a city code enforcement inspector. Alliant Energy also was called to the scene to turn of the power after officials became aware the utilities were compromised from the impact of the crash.
