The Department of Natural Resources gears up for series of prescribed burns in south central Wisconsin.
Every year in the spring and fall, the Wisconsin Department of Natural resources hold a series of prescribed burns around the state. The burns simulate wild fires that used to occur naturally before human habitation.
Bob Manwell of the Wisconsin DNR says fire has numerous benefits to the environment.
The prescribed burns in Rock County include the Avon Bottoms wildlife area, the Evansville wildlife area, the Rock River natural area, and other wildlife areas. They will take place as conditions allow.
