Sheriff Investigating Suspicious Dog Death
The Rock County Sheriff is currently investigating a dog found dead of a gunshot wound in the town of Newark.
According to a Rock County Sheriff’s report, a motorist called police after spotting a pit bull laying in a field along West Mill Pond Road just east of South County H in the Town of Newark.
The female pit bull had what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the midsection on its right side The dog was estimated to have weighed approximately 50 lbs, is light brown in color with a small area of white around the neck, and its claws had been painted pink. The dog did not have a collar, tags or other identifying information.
Deputies searched the area and checked with nearby residents, but were unable to find a possible owner.
It’s the second time in a week that the sheriff’s office has found dead dogs with gunshot wounds discarded in a rural area.
A Mineral Point woman was cited on Sunday after she euthanized two elderly dogs that her father could no longer care for, and threw their bodies in a Dumpster in rural Edgerton.
