The Janesville Board of Education approves $90,000 to expand the challenge program at Madison Elementary School.
A previous proposal to expand the program for third and fourth grade students who are gifted in all subjects failed to pass. A scaled back version, only including third grade was brought back Tuesday night by school board commissioner Kristen Hesselbacher.
The Challenge program serves extremely gifted and talented students, who excel in all subjects. Currently Madison has 27 gourth graders on the waiting list for the program, and 29 third graders waiting to get in.
Commissioners DiStefano, Ardry, Murray, and Schilling voted against the proposal, Commissioners Dommershausen, Sodeman, Hesselbacher, and Feldt were in favor.
