Janesville police investigate Hazmat incident

The Janesville Police Department is investigating the discovery of a white powdery substance found in an envelope at a business on North Parker Drive.

The Janesville Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials incident at 1350 North Parker Drive a little after 10:00 o'clock Friday morning.

Authorities say the incident took place in the mail-processing area at Hewlett Packard.  Two workers complained of irritation after being exposed to the powder.  Several workers were sent to the hospital for further examination.  Reportedly all of the employees who were transported to the hospital felt better by the time they got there.

The TAGOS Leadership Academy is located in the same building and was evacuated.

According to Janesville Police, they were unable to locate any white powder in the area of the envelope or letter, but took samples of those items anyway, which came up negative for anything suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing.
