Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite

Goodnight, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite.

That popular nursery rhyme describes one Janesville man's nightmare.  Mike Baker started getting the red itchy bites shortly after moving into a Janesville apartment building in March.  He says he's frustrated with his landlord's slow response.

According to the City of Janesville's Neighborhood Services Department, they get about five new reports of bed bugs a week.  Each time the City sends out an inspector, and if the bugs are present, the landlord is rrespopnsbile for getting rid of them.

The reddish brown bugs are about the size of an appleseed, and hide until nighttime when they come out to suck the blood of humans or animals.  The bugs often times spread to neighboring homes or apartment units.

The key to preventing bedbugs is education.  Be sure to check matresses and headboards when staying in a hotel, and never bring in furniture off of the curb.  Make sure to report infestations immediately.
