Beloit shooting victim's name released

Beloit police say 23-year-old Darrius J. Lowery-Baptiste is the victim in Tuesday night's, officer involved shooting. Authorities say the Wisconsin Department of Corrections had an active arrest warrant for Lowery-Baptiste. Beloit Police say they were looking for the victim for questioning regarding a series of shooting incidents within the City of Beloit. Those incidents have been reported since early May. Police say two officers shot into the vehicle the victim was driving, shortly after he had smashed into one squad car, and began driving toward another officer who was on foot. The incident happened on Grand Avenue near State Street a little after 5:00 p.m. The two officers involved were an 18-year and 34-month veteran of the department. Currently the State Department of Criminal Investigations is interviewing witnesses, officers, and others.
