The Janesville Fire Department may be getting into the private patient transportation business. Fire Chief Jim Jensen is considering a deal to transport patients from Mercy Emergency North to the Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center main campus. He says economic times are tough and this could increase revenue by maximizing efficiencies in the department. No new equipment would need to be purchased and the return could be $80,000 to $150,000 per year. The hospital currently contracts with private ambulance providers and this deal would not be exclusive. The city council will host a public hearing on the proposal at 7:00 p.m. Monday night.
