Rock County's unemployment rate drops. The State Department of Workforce Development says the rate dropped to 8% in May, compared to 8.5% in April. The trend appears to be state wide, with unemployment on the decline in all 12 of the state's major metropolitan areas. Among counties, Rock has the 19th highest rate, with Beloit having the highest rate among cities at 11.7%. Green, Jefferson, and Walworth Counties all have unemployment rates under 7%. Statewide, the unemployment rate is a little under 7%, with virtually no change from a year ago. DWD also reports initial unemployment insurance claims are at pre-recessionary levels.
