Blast levels Beloit home

Beloit fire officials are investigating the destruction of a Meridith Avenue home.  Firefighters responded to a report of an explosion at 2041 Meridith Drive at 7:40 p.m. Sunday night.  When firefighters arrived they found the home collapsed, but the roof still intact.  The cut between the trusses to rescue a woman, who was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville.  The also rescued a man from the south end of the home, who was then transported to a burn center in Madison.  Some neighbors witnessed the explosion, and firefighters say they could smell natural gas when they arrived on scene.
