Record crowds create concern on first day of fair

Additional law enforcement was needed Tuesday to handle security at the Rock County Fair. Rock County's Emergency Dispatch Center says officers responded to a call of a disturbance outside the grandstands about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Janesville Fire Captain Jody Stowers says he saw people lined up all the way around the perimeter of the fairgrounds. The Rock County Sheriff's Office estimates the crowd for the performance by Florida Georgia Line around 8500.. Sergeant Carl Weberg says the crowd overwhelmed gate 3 1/2 and several people may have entered without paying. No arrests or injuries related to the size of the crowd were reported. Overall attendance numbers for the day shattered old records. Fair officials say 30,667 came through the gates, topping the record of 28,395 set in 1995.
