Local hospital deals with theft of records

St. Mary's Hospital Janesville is sending out a lot of letters warning patients their medical information may have been compromised. Hospital officials say an SSM Health Care laptop was stolen from an employee's car August 27th. Medical records of more than 600 patients may have been on the laptop. Hospital officials say the laptop did not contain any Social Security numbers, addresses, or financial information. Letters are being sent to all those affected. Officials also say they are partnering with ID Experts, a leader in identity protection services, for patient identity monitoring and protection at the hospital's expense.
