The Janesville City Council hopes a new industrial development on the south side will attract new business.
A local developer has proposed extending Todd Drive to intersect with Freedom Lane, opening up about 350 acres for industrial development north of the Southside Industrial Park.
Economic Development Coordinator Al Huelick says they'd also like to install a new railroad crossing at the site, which would give Janesville a competitive edge.
Huelick says the city gets several inquires a year for rail-served industrial sites, and currently there are none.
Monday night the Janesville City Council unanimously approved a resolution to petition the Commissioner of Railraods for the crossing at Todd Drive - a first step in the process.
