The National Weather Service in Sullivan has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Rock County and surrounding areas beginning at 6:00 pm tonight, continuing until 9:00 am Friday morning.  Light rain is expected throughout the evening and temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.  This combination could potentially create one tenth of an inch of ice accumulation by Friday morning, and lead to hazardous travel conditions.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is asking citizens to be aware of the potentially dangerous road conditions that may develop with this forecast.
  • Friday morning commutes could be delayed with these road conditions.  Plan accordingly, use caution during your travels and anticipate the need for extra travel time.
  • Wear your seatbelt, give yourself distance from other vehicles on the roadway and reduce your speeds.
  • Pack emergency supplies in your car and always have a cell phone and charger ready for use.
  • If travel conditions become too difficult to handle, get off the roads and seek shelter until driving is safe.
Weather forecasts also indicate the potential development of a winter snow storm this weekend, creating continued hazardous travel conditions.  The Rock County Sheriff’s Office will monitor weather forecasts, as well as local roadway conditions during this advisory and throughout the weekend.
Road conditions can be monitored at or by dialing 511 on your telephone.
