The recent extreme cold snap did more than send our heating bills through the roof, it left the American Red Cross short on blood. Spokesman Brian Gomez says a series of blood drives are planned in Janesville this month to help make up for those canceled during the bad weather. He says 14 drives were canceled this month in Wisconsin alone, and more than 300 in 24 other states. He says this has created as shortfall of more than 9000 blood and platelet donations. Blood drives in Janesville this month include January 14 from 1:00-6:00 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran church, January 20 from 10:30-2:30 at the American Red Cross South Central Wisconsin Chapter office, January 27 from 10:30 -3:30 at Bethel Baptist Church, and January 28 from 10:00-2:00 at Hedberg Public Library, 1:00-6:30 at Bethel Baptist Church, and 2:00-6:00 at UAW Local 95.
