With another bitter cold spell hitting the area, local propane fuel prices have as much as tripled in less than two weeks. John Arndt with Milton Propane says this has put a real bite on both retailer and customer. To help customers save money and keep warm, Arndt has eliminated the minimum delivery restriction. This way customers can either buy what they can afford, or use what they need until the price improves. Arndt is also going so far as to offer electric heaters at cost to help customers get by in the meantime. Arndt blames part of the problem on relatively new export practices. He says twice the amount of propane is leaving the country, compared to what's being used here. The governor plans to meet with representatives of Wisconsin's propane industry Monday morning to talk about the problem.
