The City of Janesville isn't quite convinced that the Friends of the Oak Hill Chapel are ready to handle a $60,000 grant to restore the 115-year-old building.
The chapel was slated for demolition last fall, and since then, the group has raised $40,000 towards it's restoration.
The Janesville City Council considered granting the group the rest of the money to reach the $100,000 goal for the project, although a study detailing the scope of the project won't be ready until March.
Monday night in a five to one vote, with Liebert dissenting, the council voted to wait to grant the money, until the Friends of Oak Hill Chapel have a more detailed plan of how they plan to spend it.
Council member Matt Kealy was absent.
