Fire fighters suggest replacing smoke detector batteries

Local fire officials are urging residents to use this weekend's time change as a reminder to check smoke detectors.  Beloit Fire Chief Bradley Liggett advises residents change the batteries.  Liggett says a properly installed and maintained smoke detector isyour "first line of defense" should a fire emergency occur in your home.  The National Fire Protection Association states nearly two-thirds of home fire deaths are a result of homes without a properly functioning smoke detector.
