Nine people escape an early Tuesday morning fire in Janesville, thanks to a warning from neighbors across the street. Fire Shift Commander Scott Running says Residents of a duplex, at the corner of Linn Street and McKinley Avenue in Janesville, may have their neighbors to thank for saving them. When firefighters arrived around 5:30 a.m. they found flames on the outside of the structure rising from the peak of a connected porch. Damage is estimated around $50 thousand. The cause is still being investigated. A family of six in the lower apartment will stay with relatives. The Red Cross is helping the three upstairs tenants find housing.
